Three Beautiful Things

I recently discovered the blog Three Beautiful Things, written by a British woman named Clare. Almost every day for the last three years, she has recorded three things that have given her pleasure on that day. From charming Italian waiters to having tea in bed, Clare’s lists are exquisite in their detail. She’s definitely a woman after my own heart — looking purposefully for beauty in the world around her.

So, in her honor, I’m going to start posting occasional Three Beautiful Things posts, starting today.I encourage you to join in and comment with your own 3BT lists on these posts!

1. Lifting my arms into the air and leaning my head back to breathe in a deep breath underneath the lush green trees in the park.

2. Lapsang souchong tea, with alfalfa honey and milk.

3. Finally hand-washing the big bag of delicates that’s been loitering for six months, and remembering items of clothing I’d forgotten I had.

All right, now your turn!

  1. I’m game! I think I could list 3,000.

    1. Cookiing a great big, complicated dinner (with lots of courses and surprises) for friends and/or family– especially watching everyone enjoy that first bite. And then following it up with spicy red wine and some decadent dessert that makes use of bitter dark chocolate.

    2. Helping a child realize their very own super-special uniqueness.

    3. Floating. In the ocean with the sun warming my face or –belive it or not– in a flotation chamber. I only did it twice, but it was amazing. You’re totally weightless, so all of your muscles relax and you feel as if you could be floating in outer space.
