The Beckoning of Lovely: Strangers Creating Together
4 Comments | posted May 06th, 2009 at 09:58 am by Jennifer Gandin Le

Another video landed for my column this week, this one about a promise made on YouTube that exploded into playful creativity amongst a group of strangers.

Here’s the video that started it all, from writer Amy Krouse Rosenthal. It’s strangely touching to me, the gathering of big and small things that she’s made. I’ve been in a funk this week where all I can concentrate on are the things I haven’t made. It gave me perspective to see “this mess” nestled in with “this boy” and “this book” as things that she’s made. It all counts. It’s all part of life.

Wow- maybe I am just feeling emotional or maybe it was the “Eternal Sunshine” music but that video of them all making things together made me cry. I also tend to focus on what I haven’t made/accomplished etc and this was such a beautiful and powerful reminder that “it all counts.” Thank you so much for sharing this Jennifer!

  2. Sarah, it made me cry, too! I was amazed at how many people showed up for something so mysterious. That alone gave me hope about my fellow human beings. I’m so grateful that this post connected with you.

  3. Nice! I think what is so appealing is the offering of vulnerability and wonder in a big scary world, an opportunity for our inner child to come out and play well with others (as the old report card used to say!). It’s a glimpse of the world we all long for. No agenda but kindness and creativity.

    I LIKE it!!

  4. JAS, I think you’re right. It takes a lot of guts to make space for play, for wonder, especially with strangers. I think the world we long for is totally possible!
