Check you out, getting tv facetime! I was wondering what the heck you were doing posting a GMA link rather than the heavy lifting of a genuine vlog, but this must have been a hoot to do.

And that Mommy is so busted by the person she was hoping to dump subtly.

  2. Richard, I wouldn’t exactly call my vlogs heavy lifting. I turn on the camera, talk some shit and then slap it onto my computer and onto this site. I should probably, actually, do a little more with them, maybe do some cut-aways, graphics, make them look semi-professional. Jesus!

And yeah, GMA was fun! And yeah, that mommy is totally busted.

Do you have an questions for Jodyne? She’s here and ready to help you or anyone…

Thanks for posting this. I’ve been trying to find a way to break up with my hairdresser. She is a lovely young woman who came to my hotel on my wedding day to style my hair. We’ve really bonded. She also does my mother’s hair. (My mother has no desire to ‘break-up’ with her.)

My reason for wanting to break up has nothing to do with my hairdresser’s abilities or quality of service. I’m a black woman and I really want to stop straightening my hair. My hairdresser only works with processed hair so I would have to ‘dump’ her once I decide to go natural. I know it’s something I have to do, but I’m concerned about what it will do to our relationship.

    Any thoughts?

  4. This is so exciting, for Jodyne, of course, and also for you, for a fantastic GMA appearance! Very very cool!

  5. Hi Guys and Dolls-

First of all, thanks Jennifer for your support. Yes, it is very cool and I was so happy to have Kimmi on with me. She was terrific. Moving along to Erica. Believe it or not Erica, this is one of the easier break ups because as you said, it has nothing to do with her ability. As I mention in Dump ‘Em, I would start off by saying something positive, such as “You are so lovely and I feel so blessed that you were there for me on my wedding day.” Then acknowledge that this is a difficult conversation to have but that you’ve decided to stop straightening your hair and because of this you’re going to stop seeing her, since her speciality is processed hair. Let her know how great she is and if you ever decide to start straightening your hair again, she’s your first call. In and out. Less is more is always they way to go here. Make your point, and then try to exit as politely and quickly as possible. No need to over talk. My guess is she wants you to be happy and so will understand. Best of luck to you and if you need any more help, please buy a copy of “Dump ‘Em” at your favorite book store.

Well, “heavy lifting” might be the wrong word for vlogs, but I degenerate into babbling about 90 seconds into almost all the ones I do. Retakes happen a lot! But I’m doing them for snippets of info related to lectures, so it’s not always comfortable material, and I don’t have the luxury of relaxing into a subject….

  7. Where do you post yours? I’d love to see one!

Sorry, Kimmi – i’ve been working for my classes inside a university-administered platform called Moodle, which is an open-source “learning management platform” (the kind of phrase that seems to cry out for scare quotes) . But I’ve started experimenting with uStream.tv as a recording device, so I’ll let you know if I start posting there. Freedom to speak just isn’t something I find easy, which is one reason I appreciate yours so much.
