Thanks, Joie! I went to a party on Saturday night and drank club soda and was absolutely fine. I still danced. I still had fun. But I've never been a big drinker, and I don't need to drink to feel comfortable with people. I do like wine. And I like the buzz of alcohol, but I'm fine without it too. In terms of making plans, I still go places and have dinner. It's kind of like being a vegetarian. It's not like I can't eat food. For example, I had vegan chocolate chip banana bread the other day. Delicious.

Kate, thanks for your love! I feel it! And love you too!

In terms of food groups (see below), I can still have whole grains, just not gluten, which a lot of adults are allergic to and don’t know it. I can still have olive oil and fats. I can have fruits. Beans and nuts. And vegetables. So, I’m really just giving up dairy, in terms of whole food groups. And dairy is known to suppress the immune system. People often binge on bad shit for more than 40 days, so I don’t see why treating the body well and eating healthy foods for a period of time to recalibrate is bad. I understand that it may not be appealing to you, but it’s not like I’m going on the master cleanse for 40 days where I can only have lemon juice, cayenne pepper and maple syrup. That seems extreme to me. Not that this isn’t a thing. It is. But, I will say, I feel physically better eating like this. I’m definitely clearer and calmer. That has to mean something.

Food groups:
Breads, Cereal, Rice & Pasta

Fats, Oils & Sweets

Fruits

Meat, Poultry, Fish, Beans, Eggs, Nuts

Milk, Yogurt & Cheese

Vegetables

Kimmi, I absolutely love you and I wish you the best of luck on the 40-day-cleanse. But I gotta come down on the side of...I don't quite get it. 40 days of only 1 and a half food groups?

It seems like, throughout time, people put value on giving things up. I feel like if it's out there and it's awesome, I kind of want to experience it. Now this is not a perfect argument by any means because (a) I don't mean heroine or anything of that type and (b) I'm a vegetarian, but I've been one for so long it doesn't feel like I'm giving anything up, more just that that's who I am.

I guess this is another great example of different strokes for different folks.

GOOD LUCK, Kimmi! I'm always fascinated with this stuff and definitely want to hear more about your experience. Do you need to find new ways to socialize because you can't go out for food or have coffee or get a drink? How does this work on days when you can't cook at home? Are you feeling awesome or more tired cause of no coffee?

So many questions...KEEP US POSTED!

Thanks, Molly! I appreciate the support! That's so funny about drugging yourself with cheese! That's the thing I miss the most. Why is cheese so damn comforting?

Thanks Kate. I'm glad you like my perspective. I don't think anyone's ever complimented me on my perspective before. Or at least not used that word! And yes, I'll keep you guys posted! So far so good!

Oh, and p.s., good luck with the cleanse and keep us posted. I know I'm probably not the only one who wants to hear more about how it goes.

Hi Kimmi. As I tend to look at challenges somewhat negatively right now, your perspective is refreshing. We SHOULD do things to improve ourselves, we should welcome those challenges and do them just because. Thanks for helping me to look for that new perspective.

Kimmi, You can do it! When I decided to stop eating cheese, I felt like a changed person within 48 hours-- clear head, no fog, super energy, aliveness. That inspired me to cut it out completely for four months. (Of course, that's MY body, and I would never suggest anyone else must do the same thing.) I called my mom and said, "I've been drugging myself with cheese my whole life!" It was radical. So, even though I love the taste of cheese and appreciate all of its nuances, I've learned that it doesn't nourish me in the way other foods do.

Thanks Nicole!

Sarah, awesome sites! Thank you! Can't wait to taste your lentil chili on Saturday!

Emily, I am so glad that line spoke to you and that you like my openness. You made my day! Thank you!

Jennifer, moderate is good! Oddly, I don't see this as extreme. What does that say about me?! Anyway, will keep you posted. xoxo

Kimmi, you are a brave soul. I love the idea of eating healthier, releasing foods that don't serve your body well, recentering spiritually, all of that good stuff. Big cleanses like this don't appeal to me personally, but that's probably because I'm tend to be incredibly moderate. I can't wait to get your reports on how it's going! xox

"I'm figuring out a way to be better to myself even if it means giving up something that I love." What an awesome way to look at things. I think I am constantly struggling to figure out how to be better to myself when it runs in direct contradiction to the things I love to do or am just really used to doing. It often means that I focus on what I'm giving up, rather than what I'm going to get. I like thinking about it in a way that puts being better to myself first.

I hate to play favorites, but I just love Therapy Thursdays with you! Thanks for being so open with us.
